Parrotless Petey is Lost in Space

Here is a short list of old and even antique personal favorites I would purchase in either standard DVD or blu-ray format, replacing my corresponding VHS tapes. I've already dumped these to DVD disks but would really prefer commercial versions.

  • 1951 The African Queen - They put Kate Hepburn's trailers on DVD but not the films? - Alas! I see this one is scheduled for 03/23/2010...
  • 1966 Stagecoach - I have John Wayne's 1939 classic & the country star remake, but want to add this one too.
  • 1976 Futureworld - Downloadable at Amazon; burn to disc, add chapters, and sell it to me...
  • 1976 Massacre at Central High - No one could even guess why this is on my list!
  • 1985 The Dungeonmaster - The olio when 6 directors write 6 chapters for 1 film.
  • 1986 On Wings of Eagles - H. Ross Perot sponsors an Iranian hostage rescue
  • 1987 Dudes - New York punks venture West and play cowboys and Indians
  • 1994 The Air Up There - A basketball coach recruits a native African
  • 2009 (Have you ever seen such a mishmash on a single short list?)
I'd like to complain about the stupid forced previews which seems prevalent on new release movies. Receiving the blu-ray sci-fi movie "District 9" for Christmas, it seemed like there were seven or more previews before getting to the movie menu. Obviously, none of the menu buttons function on the remote and I was getting aggravated to the point of simply returning the movie, or perhaps tie it to a brick and return it that way.

Cooling down a bit, I looked on the Internet and found a lot of sympathy and empathy but no really good solutions except to fast forward or skip through them. My fast forward would crank up to 128x but then each new preview cut it back to 1X. I finally figured out the skip button above the fast forward worked kind of okay, but I really shouldn't have the previews crammed down my throat; if I want that, I'll go to the Big House. All they have to do is add previews to the main menu and those that want to view them can. It is really ignorant to have to watch the same preview if I want to watch the purchased movie again.

I will mention I liked the movie AVATAR but will also mention after 20 minutes of previews I would have walked out and asked for a refund if a friend hadn't been along...
